Youth Academy Players Competing in Future Stars Tournament

Youth Academy Players Competing in the Future Stars Tournament

The Youth Academy Program (Rec+) is suitable for all players born in the years 2011 (U7), 2010 (U8) and 2009 (U9).

This program is the bridge and foundation to the EWSC Competitive program. The Youth Academy offers a more competitive environment for the players to develop their skills and prepare them to play competitive soccer at U9 and U10

Each week the players will work with a professional trainer who will lead the training sessions and develop the players skills and small group tactics through the season.

Every team will have a parent volunteer coach to assist during the professional training sessions, coach the team at the EWSC tournament, and be out on the field with the team twice a week.

In the Spring season, players will compete on Mother's Day weekend in the EWSC Future Starts Tournament. The players will compete against the other EWSC Youth Academy teams with referees and really experience what it is like to play in a competitive tournament.

All players will need the following for training and game days:
1) Size 3 Soccer Ball
2) Cleats
3) Shin Guards - socks should cover the entire shin guard
4) Water Bottle
5) Great Attitude!

Youth Academy (Rec+) Program Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Should we register for both the Rec and Academy Programs?
A: No. Please enroll your child in the program you want him/her to participate in. If we get too many enrolled for Academy, we will fill the teams with the first people to register. Last year we were able to place every player on a Academy team who registered for it.

Q: Who finds the professional trainers/coaches?
A: Shari Lenz, the Eagan Wave Soccer Club Director of Coaching, will coordinate the trainers/coaches for the professional sessions that each Academy player will receive. These trainers/coaches will have experience in training U7-U9 players and will focus on creating a fun environment for the kids to develop their skills and understanding of soccer.

Q: Does each team still need a volunteer head and assistant coach?
A: Yes. EWSC still relies heavily on all of our fantastic volunteers to ensure the success of our youth programs. It’s important that each team have at least 1 volunteer coach so they can assist with training and organize games and tournament play.

Q: Is there any training for the volunteer coaches?
A: Yes. there is. EWSC will extend many of its coach education clinic opportunities to the Academy coaches who are interested. Also, EWSC encourages coaches to attend the professional training sessions for the Academy Program so they can learn at the same time the players are learning.

Q: What happens after the spring season?
A: Depending on their birth year, in the fall these players with either stay in Youth Academy or move up to play Competitive soccer.

Q: Is there an Academy program in the Fall?
A: Yes, there is.

Q: Since there are no tryouts for Academy, how do you keep the teams balanced?
A: Youth Academy players will all be trained together each session and divided up randomly during 2nd session weekly training games.
