Effective starting with the summer 2011 Eagan Wave Soccer Club (EWSC) soccer season, EWSC will require all coaches to be approved by the EWSC Coach Selection Committee (CSC).

  • Anyone interested in being a coach will apply to be part of the coach pool. This includes volunteers and those wanting to be hired. Parents will be welcomed to identify potential candidates to be considered for addition to the pool of head coaches.
  • The CSC will review the applications, conduct interviews where necessary, and approve coaches to teams.
  • Those teams that are hiring a head coach will then negotiate a contract with the coach.
  • For teams that would prefer to not hire a head coach but do not have a qualified volunteer, EWSC will work with that group to find them a head coach, similar to our current process.

The EWSC Board and our Technical Director, Colleen Carey, have been focused on making improvements to our club’s training and coaching. We are committed to providing the best training and coaching possible to give our players the greatest experience and to help ensure that we continue towards our vision of developing fundamentally-sound players who play the game the right way.

It is with pleasure that we announce new changes to our coaching philosophy and requirements. Starting in 2011, EWSC will require all coaches to be approved by the club’s Coach Selection Committee and require all of our coaches to hold or to begin to obtain specific levels of coaching certifications. We believe that this will only enhance the development of our players.

EWSC will be holding the annual parent meeting for the summer 2011 season (i.e., current players U11 and above) on July 22, at 7 p.m. at Blackhawk Middle School in Eagan. At this meeting, Skip Newton, EWSC Director of Coaches, will present the new coaching direction that the Board has unanimously approved. We are extremely excited to roll-out this new phase of the EWSC. We invite you all to attend the upcoming meeting to become acquainted with the new coaching requirements. We look forward to the opportunity to answer any questions you may have regarding the coaching requirements and the coach selection process.
