Dear EWSC Parents,
First, thank you to everyone who has contacted me after I sent out the letter on June 28, discussing some poor parent behavior at EWSC games. I appreciate all of the positive feedback. Hopefully that reminder will continue to make everyone think about the right way to support our kids during their soccer games.
Today I’d like to talk about where our soccer club is at and, more importantly, where we are going. The mission of the Eagan Wave Soccer Club is to provide our players with an environment that will allow them to improve all of their technical skills, become tactically aware, build physical power, become mentally strong, and have superior character. We provide all players with a disciplined learning environment to insure that they develop into first class soccer players at all levels and outstanding citizens. This is why we are a soccer club. It is our purpose. It is why we exist. Everything EWSC does as a soccer club is to serve our mission and our players. Our club is about our players, our kids.
Over the last year, our club placed a new focus on player development. While our board of volunteers still had plenty of logistical tasks to take care of like tryouts, team selections and support, field and referee assignments (and reschedules), and planning and executing the Future Stars Tournament, we made the time to strategically create a plan to create opportunities for our EWSC soccer players to develop and improve. Some of the development-related training camps and clinics we sponsored included:
- Boot Camp
- Keeper Camp
- Striker Camp
- Speed and Agility Camp
- Craig Lange Soccer Training Camp
- Craig Lange Coaching Series
- Y Module Coaching Clinic
While not all of these activities were new, 100% of them were consciously approved by our board as helping us serve our mission. Note that two of the clinics involved helping our coaches develop; this was a not-so-subtle decision by the board to “train the trainers” who will spend so much time with our players and have large impacts on their development. This is an undertaking that has changed the role of Colleen Carey who is our club’s Director of Coaching. As Colleen evolves into this training of the coaches, it allows our highly qualified professional trainers to work on the technical and tactical skills training of our players.
I’m proud of what we’ve accomplished and grateful for the support we’ve received from the EWSC community for what we are doing.
But we’re not done; EWSC is not content with what we’ve done or where we are. To truly be a successful soccer club, we need to continue to move towards our EWSC vision:
“To be recognized as a leading soccer club that develops fundamentally-sound players who play the game the right way.”
Our player development camps and clinics are steps in the right direction of moving us toward our vision; however, we’ve also heard from you about things that we could have done better. We, as a board, recognize that we need to be very transparent regarding our board activities, how we select teams and changes to our rules and bylaws that impact how the club is run. We also know that we need to be more proactive and timely with communications of our player development camps and clinics. We will continuously work on these areas. I work with an incredibly dedicated group of people on our EWSC board who are very committed to doing things right and moving us toward our vision. Working with these people keeps me fired-up and wanting to lead our soccer club.
But we continue to need your help (as well as your support). We don’t have all of the great ideas or answers on our board. Nor can we be everywhere to see how things are working, both at games and at our camps and clinics. So please continue to vocally provide constructive criticism and suggestions by contacting me or any other member of the EWSC board (

th at Black Hawk Middle School. I would invite you to attend and listen to the presentation. All of us on the board have committed to making this meeting more informative toward communicating the club direction than in years past. We will be available to answer questions and take suggestions at this meeting. We would greatly appreciate your attendance.
Thank you for your time, commitment, and, once again, support of EWSC soccer.
Sincerely,
Mike Mulrooney
EWSC President
