Rec+ Program

R+ Program is coming Spring 2012 for 2nd graders!

The Recreational Plus Program offers a great starting point for 2nd graders new to soccer and/or those considering a transition into the traveling soccer program next season.

Recreational Plus teams do not compete as a team in a formal travel league, but rather compete against themselves through in-house and friendly games with other Recreational Plus teams.

The Recreational Plus team will be assigned a professional trainer. The Trainer will conduct training sessions, coordinate scrimmages, play up opportunities, and take the lead to drive a successful experience at the Eagan Future Stars and Kohl’s soccer tournaments.

Each team will be responsible to have parent volunteers to help coach and conduct team practices. Parent coaches are encouraged to assist during the professional training sessions.

Teams will train and participate in friendly and in-house games approximately once or twice a week during the months of April - Mid July.  For more information, please attend the Rec Plus Parent Meeting at BHMS at 7:30 on Monday, Feb. 6th.

Recreational Plus Program Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Should we register for both the In-house and Rec Plus Programs?
A: No. Please enroll your child in the program you want him/her to participate in. If we get too many enrolled for Rec Plus, we will fill the teams with the first people to register. Last year we were able to place every player on a Rec Plus team who registered for Rec Plus

Q: Who finds the professional trainers?
A: Colleen Carey, the Eagan Wave Soccer Club Director of Coaching, will coordinate the trainers for the professional sessions that each Rec Plus player will receive. These trainers will have experience in training 7-8 year-old children and will focus on creating a fun environment for the kids to develop their skills and understanding of soccer.

Q: Does each team still need a volunteer head and assistant coach?
A: Yes. EAA still relies heavily on all of our fantastic volunteers to ensure the success of our youth programs. It’s important that each team have 2 volunteer coaches so they can run team practices that are not with the professional trainer as well as organize games and tournament play.

Q: Is there any training for the volunteer coaches?
A: Yes. In addition to the coach certification that EAA is requiring for all coaches, EWSC and EAA are working together on a Coach Mentor program that will help educate our coaches to improve player development. EWSC will extend many of its coach education clinic opportunities to those EAA coaches that are interested. Also, all EAA coaches are encouraged to attend the professional training sessions for the Rec Plus Program so they can learn at the same time the players are learning.

Q: What happens after the spring season, is there a Rec Plus Program in the fall?
A: No. In the fall, the kids will move up to U9 (3rd grade) and will have the choice of playing In-house or travelling soccer (EWSC).

Q: Since there are no tryouts for Rec Plus, how do you keep the teams balanced?
A: We will continue to keep the players with kids from their school as best we can.  Some kids may need to move to another team depending on the number of players from each school and which parents are selected as coaches.
