Getting Started! Info for Summer 2012 EWSC Team Managers

By Mark Lasswell

Hello summer 2012 team managers! My name is Mark Lasswell, and I am the director of team managers for the Eagan Wave Soccer Club. You'll be hearing from me frequently during the season. I have several things to share to get us started.

1. There is a Team Manager Handbook out on the EWSC website which might be helpful to you as you get started organizing your team. I am very close to posting updates to it that I’ve been working on (those should be done in the next couple of weeks), but it is still pretty accurate as far as team manager duties. Please let me know if you notice anything that is unclear or needs updating.

2. If you haven't already done so, you probably want to work with your coach and have an initial team meeting. There is info in the handbook about things to address at this initial meeting.

3.  Just like last year, the club will no longer reimburse teams for fees for the MYSA playoffs, regional playoffs, or the state tournament. These fees should be built into your team’s budget and shared among the parents on your team. The cost of playoffs is $65 per team, regionals is $100 per team, and the state tournament is $300 per team. The cost of the Futures Stars Tournament team basket (see #8 below) should also be built into your budget.

4.  You can also get going on your background checks for you and your coaches (head and assistants). Here is the link to the instructions for the background check process: http://www.eagansoccer.org/page/show/96722-forms-for-mysa-and-ewsc (“MYSA Background Check Instructions”)

Please email Tris Anderson, the club’s registrar (registrar@eagansoccer.org) with the names of everyone on your team who will be getting a background check so she knows who belongs to what team when she gets the background check results. (She uses these results to order player passes for you and your coaches.)

5.  Practice sessions:
  • Each team will receive three indoor practice sessions at the Rosemount Dome (1 hour each, 1/8 of the dome) as part of their registration. Teams will receive their schedules in the next week to ten days. Practices begin in March.
  • If your team wants additional practice time in the dome, you can email your request to me. The cost is $70 per hour for 1/8th of the dome. When the schedule is completed, the club will have available dome time posted on the EWSC website.
  • If you want to want non-dome gym time for practice, the contact for gym rental in District 196 is Shelly Nicklay (952-431-8780; shelly.nicklay@district196.org). Shelly said there is less available gym time in Eagan schools right now, so if your team is willing to go to Apple Valley or Rosemount, that would help tremendously. She always checks the Eagan schools first and then moves out from there. She has some Friday night or Saturday afternoon times open, along with some later evening times. Gym time in Eagan should open up in mid-March in the elementary schools; the middle schools are still pretty scheduled with EAA volleyball.
    • Requests are processed on a first-come/first-served basis.
    • The cost is $12 per hour, plus a $16 permit fee. If your team rents multiple dates, Shelly will put your team on one permit with one permit fee. This permit is good for the rest of the school year.
    • To request some time, email Shelly (Shelly.Nicklay@district196.org) and let her know a start date and end date, number of practices desired per week, length of each practice (1 hour, 1.5 hours, etc.), preferred days of the week and/or days of the week to stay away from, desired area (Eagan, Apple Valley or Rosemount), and if you are open to going into another area if an Eagan gym is not available. Also provide your phone number, email address, and mailing address of the person to receive the permit.

6. If you have any uniform issues or questions, please contact Andy Triplett (andy.triplett@cmacco.com).

7.  There is a separate section on the EWSC website for team managers (http://www.eagansoccer.org/page/show/96718-team-manager-resources). This has info on how to build and use your team page functionality within the website, the team manager handbook, forms, etc. I’ll also be posting messages I send to you in this section in the “Team Manager Messages” section.

8. Attached is a document about the basket raffle for the EWSC Future Stars Tournament. Please contact Andy (andy.triplett@cmacco.com) if you have any questions on this.

Please let me know if you have any questions. Good luck and thank you for volunteering! Mark
