The Schwan’s USA Cup Soccer Tournament is the largest youth soccer tournament held in North America with more than 16,000 athletes from 16 countries and 30 states competing during the week of July 14 – 19 at the National Sports Center in Blaine, Minnesota.

Eagan Premier entered the tournament as one of 44 teams at the U15 age level that included teams from Canada, England, Ireland, Mexico, Illinois, Iowa, Maryland, Minnesota, Missouri, New Jersey, North Dakota, and Texas. Eagan competed at the highest competitive level during the tournament (“Cup Flight”) that included 8 of the top teams entered in the tournament. During round robin play, Eagan lost its opening game in a tough match to Ajax Soccer Club from Chicago by a score of 3 to 2. Eagan came back in the next game to defeat Blaine Premier by a score of 4 to 2. In the final round robin game, Eagan faced a team from Milton Keynes, England and came away with a 3 to 1 victory.

In the quarterfinals, Eagan played RSC Express from New York and won in sudden death overtime 2 to 1. John Baumgardner scored the winning goal in overtime for Eagan.

In the semi-finals, Eagan played Cliftonville Soccer Club from Northern Ireland who had been undefeated in the USA Cup thus far by outscoring their opponents by an 11 to 1 margin. In the first half, Ireland scored to go ahead 1 to 0. In the 2nd half, Eagan came back with goals from Tyler Christiansen and John Baumgardner to take a 2 to 1 lead. Eagan played outstanding defense against Ireland to maintain a 2 to 1 victory.  The Cliftonville Soccer Club was formed in Northern Ireland in 1879.
